Breastfeeding, TTC and ProlactinThe reason that breastfeeding offers a level of birth control is the hormone prolactin. Prolactin is released during breastfeeding. It suppressess ovulation. The more you breastfeed, the more prolactin is released. Even when your menstrual cycle returns you may have high levels of prolactin, depending on how often you breastfeed.Comments10/6/2006 8:10:02 AMmaddy said: I have a naturally high prolactin due to a begnin tumour on my pituatry gland. This is controlled by drugs (Cabergoline) and my levels have fallen. My partner and i have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months without joy, does this have a link?
