What are the steps in IVF?
Step Four
Gonal-F or Follistim is given to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs. These are given as injections for approximately 5 to 6 days.
Step Two
Approximately one week after ovulation you will have a vaginal ultrasound to evaluate the status of your ovaries. Then will begin the injection of Lupron into your thigh to prevent premature LH surge and ovulation. Your menstrual cycle should start within a week of the injections.
Step Seven
On the morning of the egg retrieval a preoperative examination will be given and a sedative administered. The egg retrievals are done by the help of ultrasound through the vagina, though a few are done by laparoscopy. The procedure takes around 25 minutes to complete. On the same day your partner will give a sperm sepcimen after abstaining from ejaculation for at least 3 prior days.
Step Nine
Approximately 3 days after the egg retrieval you will return to the doctor for the transfer of 3 to 5 embryos. Some women will wait till the 5th day for the transfer of a blastocyst. After the transfer you must remain in bed for the remainder of the day. You will be given Doxycycline, an antibotice to take for several days to prevent infection.
Step Ten
Approximately 11 days after the embroys transfer you will take a pregnancy test. If the test is positive you will procede the doctors visits for your pregnancy. If the test is negative you will make an appointment with your physician to discuss the next cycle.
Step Five
5 days after the Gonal-F/Follistim injections are given your doctor will check your blood for estrogen and perform a vaginal ultrasound. Based on the results your doctor will adjust your dosage of Gonal-F or Follistim, which will be injected again - and again you'll go for the same tests until the eggs in the ovaries are matured.
Step Six
When the eggs are matured you will be given an injection of HCG to help with their last growth spurt. After this the egg retrieval is scheduled.
Step Three
On the 2nd day of the menstrual cycle another ultrasound will be done to check the appearance of your ovaries. If they appear normal you will be given a date to start Gonal-F or Follistim therapy. The dosage of Lupron will be decreased.
Step Eight
After the egg retrieval you will go home and start on progesterone therapy - either in the form of suppositories or injections.

My husband & I are using Natural Family Planning as our source of birth control. We are using the Creighton method. We had intercourse 3 days ago on a fertile day. I did a home pregnancy test, but it came back negative. However, I`ve been feeling a little nauseated & light-headed. Is it possible I am pregnant even though the home test says I`m not? The tests also say to do the test up to 4 days before the start of a period. That`s not for about another ten days. This would be our first pregnancy if I am pregnant, so I am unsure what to expect.
